You’ve likely heard the saying, “This isn’t my first rodeo,” implying, “Thanks, but I know what I’m doing.” Well, Dryland Lament was my first rodeo. As I point out in the introduction to the book, I am a first-time author. Mind you, I’ve been writing for decades at work, but the results are lost in the governmental morass, unattributed and now buried … stilted bureaucratese written on subjects no reader cares about, in a style designed to convey information in machine-gun bursts. Say it and end it.
Now however, I’m writing stories about things I care about, people who matter to me, and how their lives intersect with America’s places, culture, technology, and faith. The gate has opened, and I’m on-top of the thousand-pound bull for the first time. Almost eight seconds have elapsed, and I haven’t been bucked off. Things are looking good so far….
