Lunch break (on a snow day) meant it was a perfect time to get some of our 2025 garden going!
Our loft in our town house here in Northern Virginia offers some perfect skylights to create a gardening nook! However, today they are covered with snow, hence the need to keep a growing light at the ready.
After building the mega-Excel-spreadsheet-planting-schedule-of-awesomeness over the last two weeks so we can head into the growing season with a better plan, the first to-do on the list was getting Lavender and Echinacea in the refrigerator for a stratification session of 3-6 weeks. Also, the first of many seeds starting trays was planted (and fed with some of our magic Vermicompost) with Mary Washington Asparagus, Akatama Red Onions, Sweet Spanish Onions, Ozark Giant Red Bell Peppers, and a wide variety of herbs! Lots more to start over the next month or so, but it feels great to play in the dirt a little today.

January 19:
Under the purple-ish glow of our grow lamps and sitting atop a warming mat, there are signs of life for our 2025 gardens! The Spanish Onions are growing well and the peppers, asparagus, and herbs are starting to poke their way through the soil.
Today, I added two more trays with future food for our bees and color for our gardens...English Lavender, Echinacea, and Lupines.
I am sure there will be plants that don't do so well under my care and I will make mistakes. I historically don't have a great track record with green things, but it is a grand adventure to learn and try! My goal for this year, have more things growing in my garden than last year!
