Preparing for next weekend as my sister will join us on the homestead to paint a bee box for a very special project we are partnering on, Broken Chair Honey. Lots more to share in the days and months ahead! What a gift to tackle this with her!
We uncovered all the garden beds to prepare for some first things getting transplanted/planted next weekend...of course with a loose grip on timing because Virginia weather can be unpredictable. We are hoping to get peas and spinach started in the raised beds and lupines in the field flower garden. Very excited about those lupines! It is also possible that our fruit trees and strawberry starts may be here soon as well.
Peter gathered materials to build two more raised beds for our expanded vegetable gardens. We gathered sticks/leaves/straw to fill the current beds in order to provide a layer of compostable material that will break down and provide nutrients for whatever is growing there. Next weekend we will add vermiculite, compost, and Vermicompost (we have sooooo much) before we get the gardens started. While we know more today about all of this homesteading stuff than we did last year at this time, we are excited to stretch ourselves, work hard, and keep learning!
My sister was thrilled to hear that next weekend she will get to help me feed our Gerards!
