The death of a chick...

Sad and good and hard and productive day here on the homestead...

As we anticipated, it is possible to lose baby chicks and indeed we did today.

This little chicken nugget was one of our mystery birds and never quite got the hang of drinking and eating. We tried to help, but it was very weak and slipped away this

morning after a last-ditch effort to revive it. We buried it in our homestead cemetery with our feral cat, Finnbogi and the Bina bees.

However, homestead life goes on, and we celebrate the hard-working Gerards and their beautiful vermicompost to fertilize our strawberries and other fruit trees! The strawberries are so sweet!

Turns out that getting the chickens delivered to your home is a fantastic motivator for making progress on the chicken run! Peter got lots of work done today and things are taking shape.

Got the tomatoes and peppers into our gardens today! Here's to summer harvests to come!

Ended the day with my sweetheart enjoying one of our new favorite past times...feeding chickens from your hand. Sweetness! And the chickens are pretty cute too...

And our puppy Maggie loves her blue platypus!
