A rainy-ish Saturday is a good reminder of how much our watering gig here at the homestead has changed for the coming growing season. With the addition of more fruit trees in our orchard/field, approximately 54 varieties of flowers and expanded vegetable gardens, we needed more than a couple hose lines, two 5-gallon buckets and a watering can to get everything taken care of this year. Investing in more hoses, hose line splitters, timers, another sprinkler systems for our raised beds, and a rain barrel means we no longer have to haul anything anywhere. There is hose line/water available to each corner of our gardens/field. Who knew we would get so excited about hoses?

Also, obsessing about the weather is a thing. With critters and blooming things dependent on our care, it is a blessing when the weather is cooperative...just right, not too hot and not too cold, with just enough rain to help things grow, but not turn our property into a soggy mess!

The corn and sunflowers that we planted are sprouting and looking great! Tomatoes and peppers have been transplanted. Green beans, squash, melons and herbs have been added to our garden beds and now we water and wait!

The first round of spring flowers have been deadheaded and we are working on planting flowers that will bloom throughout the summer and into early fall for our bees. Peter and I are learning a lot about our property and the quality (and lack thereof) of the soil in different areas. The greatest harvest we continue to enjoy is the rocks that seem to multiply each week!

And the best song I know about water...
